A full 120% Fertile!

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

A total suprise to me, but my docters informed me I’m completely fertile again!

they consider spermcounts of over 20 million/ml to be normal – mine was 59 million/ml (although before chemo one of my measurements hit 119 million )
they consider motility of over 40% normal – mine was 59%
the movement ’speed’ of these [...]

Smakkie wants a party!?

Sunday, November 20th, 2005

Alexander Smakman is a member of Faust (fraternity), who joined us last February. He called me last Wednesday with pretty bad news: he was in the LUMC and diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. Last Friday we visited him with a group of Faust and I told him that if he wanted such a big surpriseparty [...]

Merel didn’t

Saturday, November 12th, 2005

Merel did fight her cancer with all means available.
Merel did have massive support from friends and family.
Merel did show unending optimism and courage.
Merel van den Berg didn’t survive cancer.
I feel very sad. Such things shouldn’t happen.

Merel is a hero!

Tuesday, September 13th, 2005

This evening, I read the weblog of Merel van den Berg, a 27-year old cancer patient with Non-Hodgkin. It is a heartbreaking story of a young woman who has faced a lot of setbacks in the course of her treatment. It took over one-and-a-half hours of reading and crying to get through it. Her character [...]

Good x-ray results!

Monday, September 12th, 2005

Last Friday, I got the results of my x-ray of the week before and they were good !! This was such a relief!
When Hodgkin-tumours diminish due to chemotherapy/radiotherapy they leave some scar-tissue (“littekenweefsel”) behind. With this x-ray you can see whether the remaining scar tissue changed compared to the CT-scan done last [...]

Friday, July 9 2005
Dear Friends around the Globe,
Rogier is back travelling. I flew back to the US to (re)visit Princeton. It was a special holiday, confronting yet good for the soul. Afterwards there was a small ‘1903′-reunion in Leiden and I prepared for a summer full of travelling! And now I’m writing an email from [...]

Saturday, April 9 2005
Dear Friends around the Globe,

On January 14 I received my last dose of chemotherapy. In February I went to the hospital daily for radiotherapy. And then on February 23 at 2.30 PM something remarkable happened : I finished my treatment.
