Rogier’s Road to Recovery

And so I tried to pick up sports again…

A big, big, big group of friends formed a team at korfball sports club Pernix. We have 15 teammates, while only 8 can play at any given time… It’s a happy mess : it consists of players totally new to the sport, players who played last year in the highest teams of our club (team number 1 and 2… they are good ), and some who left the sport for a couple years and now return. And since they still lacked a ‘revalidating’ cancer-patient – I could join . Two of my roommates are on the team as well (actually, my whole house now plays korfball… rather amazing).

Last thursday I participated in a training session – it wore me out completely and that while I was skipping all the running parts of it. I was a little downbeat, because I realized I’ll have to go back and do ‘fitness work out’ to regain some form of shape. Today we had our first pre-season practise match – and I felt much stronger. I managed to finish the first half of it – and although I wonder how I’ll feel tomorrow morning, it was a hell lot of fun.

Oh, we played the Top 7 team and beat them big time : 1 – 6. And Michel was the ‘zeef van de week’ by letting his direct opponent make a goal… that cost him a round of beer!
