WestCoast 2 : California Dreaming
So we arrived in San Francisco! Unfortunately a little late since we started out with delays already at Schiphol and therefore had to be booked to another flight and blablabla…
We’re here! San Francisco is quite special. It’s very hilly in the outskirts of the city as well as downtown. SF has got very different feeling neighbourhoods, from busy China Town and boring Financial District to horribly touristic Fisherman’s Wharf and friendly Castro (filled over the top with happy gay people!). In the center of SF a lot of homeless people can be found - but the atmosphere is good and not unsafe/hostile. Common to American people, everybody is very open and nice and strikes up conversations with us all the time. We walked a LOT around town and also took the famous ‘cable car’ around town : this is fun since you’re allowed to ‘hang on’ this car while not having a seat. Super!
We have this enormous spacious red Chevrolet Impala car. We drove over the famous Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge and - as we are students - visited the campusses of Berkeley and Stanford University. We became members of the AAA (not AA…) by the way : the American ANWB. This already paid off since we got three bags of maps from them as well as a 1 hour advise on our itinerary. And if we have to be towed away they’ll help us (or if we leave the keys in the car :)).
