Rogier’s Road to Recovery

I just returned from a big BBQ-party at the Dismukes Mansion. Chuck and Linda organised this and invited all members of the group and relatives and collaborators - and everybody came! It was really great it could be held at their house/garden, given that Linda is only a handful weeks away from giving birth again…

The Dismukes Mansion is very big - and their garden equally impressive! It’s hard to guess, but probably their garden extends some 40 meters in front of their house and at the least 100 meters from the back. In the Netherlands we fit over 50 people on such a patch of land. This garden is very nice for parties like this (BBQ with a lot of people) on evenings like this (temperatures around 20-25 degrees Celsius). Of course, bbq-ing is a male business and Chuck prepared all the meat ;).

It felt like I was at home. Everybody was at ease, people chatting, people eating, people having fun with the swing (”schommel”) and people playing volleybal! It was so nice. I got to talk to everyone and played volleybal (won 1, lost 2 - not bad for now; and I had JD in my team :D). Gennady brought a big and delicious cake with the text “New Life” written on it. We had a lot of fun!

I had to say goodbye to Chuck because he is leaving for Washington tomorrow to present at a conference. It feels good knowing I have friends at Princeton. This bbq-party was just perfect.
